Its space is relatively small and ideal – it used to house the favorite Kauffmann bookstore. There is nothing white around. The gray walls, mortar, metal and graphic elements draw a picture in total harmony with the city center. What makes Jarmusch special is the feeling that you’re in a sheltered bowl in the center of Athens – sometimes the limitations of urban planning act as positive connotations. Architectural design s credited to a2architects. Graphic diligence that took off the architecture solution of Anifanti and Ziogas was made by Theodore Lalagka (you & i).
Their inspiration, the very center of the city. Behind the dj there is a wall print where you’ll find an excerpt of a Jarmusch’s interview: “Originality is non existent” -which is the motto of the bar as well. In a sense, this motto reflects the very essence of Jarmusch Bar; since nothing in it is entirely authentic and everything is stolen from our hearts / with inspiration.
The human palette that is visiting the place is full of lawyers and scribes who have the pleasure to escape for a quick coffee outside the office, of university students who discovered Jarmusch in their wanderings, of magazine people and freepress guys to actors, and of people who just stuck with Jarmusch’s coffee and its three special ways to serve hot chocolate. As for the music…it’s the soundtrack of urban stories. No specific attitude. The genre nowadays has effortlessly developed into what this actually is – indie sounds, soul, funk and sometimes lounge jazz. Another specialty, their crazy cocktails!
